In Monday Memo

This week’s focus:

Think before you judge!

It’s as if we were born to judge – judge others, judge situations, judge whatever. Studies suggest that we have four seconds to make an impression when meeting someone – which suggests that, as the human race, we are all really quick to judge.

Some of us can be pretty opinionated as well – pontificating about this and that, pronouncing our judgments on the world, as if what we have to say is really that important.

Here’s the thing: who does our judgment say more about: the judged or the judge?

Well, actually, it says nothing about the judged. Our judgment only speaks to what we think about the judged. So, it speaks about ourselves, what we believe and how we judge. In essence, it speaks only about our ego.

So, next time (and it tends to come around pretty quickly), think before you judge!

Monday Morning Perspective: “If you didn’t grow up like I did then you don’t know, and if you don’t know it’s probably better you don’t judge.” – Junot Díaz
