THIS WEEK’S FOCUS:
For once, just S.T.O.P.!
There’s one thing I know for sure: ALL my clients are in a hurry! ALL of them feel like they don’t have enough time in the year, never mind the day! ALL of them feel like they are on a treadmill – autopilots endeavouring to get things done fast but not really getting to the place they need to be. Sound familiar!
Here’s the thing: we all know deep down what the answer is! The answer is not to go faster when the treadmill isn’t taking you to where you need to get. The answer is to slow down so that you can get to where you need to get. The answer is to be less on autopilot and far more conscious in our decision-making in the moment. the thing: we all know deep down what the answer is! The answer is to be less on autopilot and far more conscious in our decision-making in the moment.
So push pause! Use what Timothy Gallwey calls the tool of tools: S.T.O.P. It’s an acronym that helps in virtually any situation and takes as long as you want – from 2 seconds to however many days will help. Here is how it works:
Stop and step back
Think – create a thinking space or moment; eg what’s going on here?
Organise your thoughts or consider your options
Proceed – go ahead and do it
Oh, there’s another thing I know for sure: the more you STOP, the more conscious you become about what you are doing in the moment, the quicker you will get to where you need to get! STOP and think about it – NOW!
